Bible Journaling

Using the S.O.A.P method of Bible Journaling

If you didn’t read last week’s post on SOAP, please go back and read it. This week I’d like to share a couple of my SOAP’s. These are my exact words from the day I wrote them.

9/1/18 A Sound Mind

Scripture: For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and a sound mind. 11 Timothy 1:7

Observation: When we are fearful, confused, and feel powerless, it is not from God.

Application: Instead we can stand on the validity of this verse and look into God’s word for direction. Through it, we can love others, make godly decisions. and have the ability to do so.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for leading me to this method of exploration of Your word. Help me to serve You with a sound mind and love for myself and others.

9/3/16 Utilizing God’s Strength

Scripture: I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13

Observation: I think God is telling us we can do anything as long as it’s in His strength and His will.

Application: It doesn’t mean I can accomplish something that’s selfish or doesn’t benefit the kingdom of God. God would have me to depend upon Him more – not trying to accomplish things in my own power.

Prayer: Thank you, God, for helping me to understand that I don’t have to work alone. I can just trust and rest in You.

These are unedited, first drafts of what I wrote. I would encourage you to do the same. Get down on paper your first thoughts and impressions. I pray that S.O.A.P. will lead you into a deeper understanding of God’s Word.

Next week: I’m going to share some journals I wrote over 30 years ago. It is so special to go back that far and see what our faithful God was doing then.
