Can You Trust Jesus’ Words

God’s Saving Hand reaching for the faithful

In John 8:31-47 Jesus is speaking to the Jews. He tells them that if they hold to His teachings, they are His disciples, and his disciples know the truth and have been set free. The Jews are indignant and respond by saying that they are Abraham’s descendents and have never been slaves of anyone.

Jesus goes on to say that everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Here, the Jews can’t deny they have sinned at least once in their lives. More like every day. They continue to insist that their spiritual status is based on Abraham, their father. Finally, in exasperation, the Jews tell Jesus that the only Father they have is God himself.

Jesus replies, “I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own, but He sent me.”John 8:42.

That’s a profound statement. If Jesus came from God, He must be perfect, just as God is perfect. If He’s perfect, then He’s without sin. If He’s without sin, He can’t lie.

Therefore, everything He says is true. Mankind, pay attention to Jesus’ words.
