God, our Father

The air outside was crisp, too cool for the short sleeve shirts I’d worn last fall. God must’ve decided this was the day most of the trees in the backyard would lose their leaves. A shower of rust, crimson, lemon yellow, barn red, bronze, and coffee brown leaves sailed to the ground, some landing on my deck.

Fall was in the air and I praised our heavenly Father for His infinite wisdom, which undoubtedly included change of seasons. Our heavenly Father. My mind drifted to His greatness, His mercy upon us, and His unconditional love.

But my heart wearied for a moment when I thought of many who don’t know God for who He really is, a God of love and acceptance. It’s hard for those of us who grew up without a father’s attention. If we never had an earthly father to love and esteem us, how could we relate to a heavenly father. Virtually impossible, except for the Holy Spirit.

As a female, I couldn’t help but think how girls need a father’s affection and affirmation growing up. I fear that today many women stumble through their lives believing they are unworthy of love. And even if they do seek God, they believe they must perform to please Him or gain His love. I speak from experience.

The Holy Spirit. How does He make a difference? When someone becomes a Christian, asking for the salvation that only Jesus, the Son, can bring, the Holy Spirit comes into that person’s life. He’s there, making His dwelling place in you. It’s so simple. All we have to do is focus on Him and say, “Show me how much God loves me. I open my heart and my hands to the Savior.”

God loves you more than anyone on earth. He values you and wants you to become whole.  “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” 1John 3:1
