God’s People

“The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.” Proverbs 4: 18-19.

Hmm. Let’s see. Would I rather walk in the full light of day or in darkness and stumble? That’s a no brainer. But the passage says the righteous walk in the full light of day. I don’t feel very righteous. I’ve harbored some unkind thoughts today … and I’ve gossiped a bit. And oh, yeah, I envied a few people and lost my temper with my husband. That doesn’t sound too righteous. Sounds like sinful behavior.

But what does God’s word say? “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3: 23-24. Though I don’t feel justified, God says I am. And I believe Him.

Romans 8: 1-2 says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.” This is good news. Though it doesn’t say I’ll never sin again, it does mean I’m not a slave to it. Now I think I can walk in the full light of day and hold my heart up higher.

“So, if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36

Dear Lord, thank You that You are willing to forgive us though we constantly fail You. I deserve nothing yet You declared me righteous. Amen
