Welcome, Debut Author Sara Foust

Merry Christmas, Sara. Thanks for sharing your debut novel with us all month.

Tell us about your book. Talk about the main characters and your goals for them. Why did you set your story in the location you did?

Kat’s brother Callum died when they were children in a horrific accident that Kat has always blamed herself for causing. She has let that guilt dictate her entire life, and she has refused to allow God’s love to heal her.

Ryan’s fiancée was murdered because of his involvement in a case on his job involving illegal drugs. His guilt has made him angry and isolated. Though he seems like a laid-back, funny person, underneath he is hiding the truth. He failed to keep Ellie safe and now believes he is not worthy to be used by God.

They both discover how wrong they are as the story progresses. I don’t want to give away too many spoilers, but I will say that I hope readers can see my take home message. God loves us no matter what our pasts hold.

The setting of East Tennessee was an easy pick for me. I love living here! It is one of the most beautiful places on earth, if I do say so myself. We have an abundance of wildlife and God’s handiwork all around us. All I have to do to find inspiration is look out my window!

Sara, I love stories about characters who deal with authentic issues in their lives.

About the book:

KAT WILLIAMS’S brother died in a gruesome accident in the mountains of East Tennessee. She blames herself.

RYAN JENKINS’S fiancée was murdered. He couldn’t protect her.

With the death of her brother, Kat believes she is unworthy of love from anyone—even God. When a good friend elicits a promise that she will stop living in the past and then leaves her clues to a real-life treasure hunt, Kat embarks on an adventure chock-full of danger. To find the treasure, Kat will have to survive wild animals—and even wilder men. Can she rely on Ryan, the handsome wildlife officer assigned to protect her . . . without falling in love?

Ryan swore off love when his fiancée was murdered, but feelings long-buried rise to the surface around Kat. He volunteers to help with her treasure hunt, vowing to keep her safe. Together they venture deep into caves and tunnels . . . and even deeper into the depths of their unplumbed hearts.
