Bible Journaling – S.O.A.P.

Last week, we talked about Bible Journaling. In my own experience, it is at the top of my list of habits that have helped me grow closer to the Lord. I truly believe God speaks to us when we give Him ear. “Draw near to the Lord and He will draw near to you.”`James 4:8.

Last summer, our dear pastor at Northbrook Baptist provided us with a simple acrostic for Bible Journaling. S.O.A.P. I’d love to share. In full disclosure, our pastor listed Wayne Cordeiro as the person who developed it.

Let’s begin. Open up your journals to the next blank page.

Write today’s date on the page. Write the chapter and a verse of a scripture you have chosen then use S.O.A.P.

S Scripture – Pick one verse that really spoke to you in today’s Bible reading. Write out the verse.

O Observation – Write a one of two sentence observation about the verse. In your own words, what does the verse mean?

A Application Write a one or two sentence application from the verse. What is something that God wants you to obey or believe or confess or change about your attitude?

P Prayer Write a one or two sentence prayer to God in response to this scripture. Ask God for help in applying His Word. Confess sin that you are now aware of or thank God for something He said to you.

Give the page a title.

Next week: I will share a couple of my S.O.A.P exercises.
